Nancy Flynn, Tony Majszak, Kay McKeen, Tony Pope, Christine Richarson, Hanna Self, Allison Torrence, Joseph
Wilmarth Tyna, and Bob Young. Nancy Allured and Brittany Drummond were absent.

approved.
Public Comment: none
Budget Report: Bob reported that there were no expenditures this month. To date expenditures totaled $525.26, leaving
$4974.74 open to spend.
Other Reports:
1. Bike Committee Report: Nancy Allured sent a report that ●Bike to School will be May 10. The committee
members have been meeting with the Superintendent’s office and the PTAs for District 200. There is a
growing commitment through the individual PTAs in the district to lead efforts in each school, which
hopefully will lead to more schools and more students participating this year. The committee is providing
materials, ideas and guidance for this effort. ●The Bike Committee is working with the Historic Commission
to provide a bike tour during Preservation Month visiting historic places and parks, especially those
commemorating WW1. The ride will be on May 20th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. The bike committee will lead the
ride, and the Historic Commission will provide a docent to talk at each stop.
2. Electronic Recycling Report: Tony Pope reported that on Februar 11, EIC members Bob Young, Joe Tyna,
Nancy Allured, Brittany Drummond, Shamili Ajgaonkar, and Tony Pope, and volunteers Jill Kustush and Jim
Truesdale worked the event, as well as employees from E Works. There were 300 vehicles, 227 from
Wheaton. There were approximately 5 gallons of cooking oil and 287 fluorescent light bulbs recycled. *The
signage regarding video surveillance posted has resulted in no dumping.
3. Adopt a Highway Report: Nancy Flynn reported that EIC was able to pick up garbage on Saturday, February
17, since the weather was unseasonably mild. Bob, Nancy Allured, Nancy Flynn and her husband Brent
worked to pick up 4 bags of garbage. The next EIC clean up is scheduled for April 15.
Upcoming Projects:
1. Electronic Recycling (March 11): Joe, Tony Pope, Allison, and Bob will be there.
2. Paper Shredding (April 8, 9-1): Kay reported that three trucks for four hours will cost $2100. Bob moved that
we allocate $2100 for this event. Kay seconded. The motion carried.
3. Foreign Language Environmental Film Fest (April 23): Kay reported that these student-created films will be
shown at Studio Movie Grill at 12:30. Although admission will be free, tickets will be needed.
4. Arbor Day (April 28): A tree will be planted at Whittier School.
5. Illinois Prairie Path Clean Up (April 29): Christine reported that there is a new email. She has sent out "Save
the Date" emails to previous participants and has heard from a number of groups already.
6. Native Plant Sale (April 29): Hanna reported that the plants are ordered. This year there will be 3 inch, quart,
gallon, and five gallon pots. Because the plugs now come in trays, not separated or marked individually, they
will not be included in the sale.
Unfinished Business:
1. EIC Mission Statement: Brittany emailed the information she put together for the city website. Ted will pass
it on.
2. Street Lamp Banners/Feather Signs/Design Contest: Christine reported that Susan Bishel is working on a
design for the EIC logo. Tony Majszak will put together a proposal for the design contest, now that we have a
mission statement.
New Business:
1. Banner Funding: tabled
2. Library Donation: Bob moved that we donate $200 to the Wheaton Public Library for environmental
materials. Kay seconded. The motion carried. Hanna will work on this again.
3. Joe reported that his church, DuPage Unitarian Universalist Church, will be hosting a one-hour presentation
called Climate Change for People, Sunday, March 5, at 9:30.
4. Latex Paint Recycling: Kay reported that the program will run longer this year, June 1-July 29.
Adjournment: Cathy moved that the meeting be adjourned. Nancy Flynn seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 8:15. The
next regular EIC meeting is scheduled for March 28, 2017, at 7:30 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Cathy Coleman
