MINUTES Wheaton Environmental Improvement Commission Tuesday, September 26, 2017 Roll Call: Chairman Ted Witte called the meeting to order at 7:30. Present were Nancy Allured, Cathy Coleman, Nancy Flynn, Tony Pope, David Popham, Hanna Self, and Bob Young. Absent were Shamili Ajgaonkar, Brittany Drummond, Tony Majszak, Kay McKeen, Christine Richardson, and Allison Torrence. Dan Dhly from the Bicycle Committee was also in attendance. Minutes: Bob moved that we accept the minutes of the August meeting. Tony Pope seconded. The minutes were approved. Public Comment: none Budget Report: Bob reported that there were not changes. We have spent $65.20, leaving $21,434.80 open to spend. Other Reports: 1. Bike Committee Report: ●Nancy Allured reported that next year's Bike Festival will be held on August 11. ●The history bike ride held in conjunction with the Historic Preservation Commission was well attended. In spite of the heat on September 23, there were 32 riders. Nancy Flannery from the Historic Preservation Commission was the docent. ●Schools are being encouraged to participate in the Bike to School event on October 4. 2. Recycling Report: lots of bulbs again 3. Adopt a Highway Report: ●The Milton Township Democrats cleaned for the third time on September 23 and collected 6 bags of trash and 4 bags of recycling. ●Nancy Flynn will contact Arin from the communications department to see if the newsletter could contain a notice asking scout troops to clean their school grounds or neighborhood side streets. Upcoming Projects: 1. Electronic Recycling (October 14): Tony Pope and Bob will be crew chiefs. 2. Adopt a Highway: November 18, 8am, weather permitting. 3. Green Fair (September 30): Kay sent flyers telling what items can be recycled, an activity for children, and coupons for $1 off admission for adults. 4. Pumpkin Composting (November 4) 5. Paper Shredding (April 7) 6. Electronic Recycling (April 14) 7. Prairie Path Clean Up (April 28) 8. Native Plant Sale (April 28) 9. Bike Festival (August 11) Unfinished Business: 1. Street Lamp Banners/Feather Signs Design Contest: no report 2. Library Books: Hanna reported that the books have not yet all arrived. New Business: 1. Environmental Film Sponsorship: tabled 2. Pumpkin Recycling Event Supplies: Bob moved that we allot up to $75 for supplies and drawing. Cathy seconded. The motion carried. 3. Medical Equipment Closet: Nancy Flynn reported that she has been contacting public entities and non-profits to try to locate space for this, but she has not had any luck. Several other suggestions were made, so she will continue to try to find a place for thisl Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:10.
