Tuesday, October 23, 2018 7:30 I. Call to Order: Chairman Ted Witte called the meeting to order at 7:30. Present: were Cathy Coleman, Nancy Flynn, Tony Majszak, Kay McKeen, Tony Pope, David Popham, Christine Richardson, Allison Torrence, and Bob Young. Absent was Shamili Ajgaonkar. Also present were Wheaton North Advanced Government students Sara Koenig, Nathan Londres, Sophie Daigle, and Nathan Gillis. II. Approval of Minutes: Bob moved that the minutes from the September meeting be approved. Tony Pope seconded. The minutes were approved. III. Budget Report: Bob reported that $973.75 remains open to spend. IV. Public Comment: None V. Reports: 1. Electronic Recycling: ●Bob reported that he, Nancy Flynn, Jim from SCARCE, and the EWorks crew handled around 300 cars in the commuter parking lot. ●Kay reported that the Green Fair collected 15,00 pounds of paper for shredding and 18.000 pounds of electronics for recycling. ● Kay reported that EWorks will be changing what they accept beginning January 1. They will no longer accept batteries or household appliances. Fliers will be handed out at the November and December recycling events, and the city newsletter and website will provide the new information on acceptable items. 2. Adopt a Highway: Nancy reported that she and her husband Brent, Bob, Ted, and Tony Pope collected 5 bags on September 29. The Milton Township Democrats are scheduled to clean their area on November 10. VI. Upcoming Projects: 1. Electronics Recycling: Bob, David, and Tony Majszak will work on November 10 in the public works yard. 2. Pumpkin Composting: Bob and Christine will work with Kay on November 3 in the commuter lot from 9-12. Bob moved that we allot up to $100 for refreshments and drawing prizes. Allison seconded. The motion carried. 3. Paper Shredding (April 6, 2019): Kay reported that Epaint will be there to recycle all non-aerosol paint (not stains or varnishes) for a fee. Mercury thermometers will also be collected. VII. Unfinished Business: ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES Month Date, Year 1. Nurses’ Closet: Nancy Flynn continues to search for a location to store medical equipment, to make it available to residents. Project Cure in Woodridge accepts unwanted medical equipment, and sends it all over the world. 2. Cherry Lane Water Detention: no information VIII. New Business: 1. Make a Difference Day: The Community Relations Commission is looking for Wheaton volunteers to share what they do to help our city. IX. Adjournment Bob moved that the meeting be adjourned.
