ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES

Call to Order: Chairman Ted Witte called the meeting to order at 7:30.
Present were Cathy Coleman, Nancy Flynn, Brian Malone, Kay McKeen, Tony Pope, David Popham,
Stephen Siemer, Allison Torrence, Jim Wozniak, and Bob Young. Absent were Jim Boak and Seema
Wadia.
Approval of Minutes:
Bob moved that the minutes from the August meeting be approved. Kay seconded. The minutes were
approved by unanimous voice vote.
Budget Report:
Bob reported that expenditures to date equal $26,177.28, leaving a $9,572.72 open to spend.
Public Comment: None
Reports:
1. Adopt a Highway: Nancy reported that the Milton Township Democrats did a cleanup of their area
on September 7 and collected 8—9 bags of trash and 4—5 bags of recycling.
2. Electronics Recycling (September 14): Tony reported that the event was manned by him, Steve,
Brian, and Jim B. representing EIC, and volunteers Jim Truesdale, Thuy Le, Deborah Loehrke and
her son Colin, a member of the Neuqua Valley High School Environmental Club, and seven workers
from E—Works. Traffic was moderate, with lots of electronics, textiles, and scrap metal
collected. Approximately 175 fluorescent bulbs, 10 gallons of cooking oil, and a dozen smoke
alarms were collected.
VI. Upcoming Projects:
1. Electronics Recycling (October 12): Bob, Steve, and David will be at this event.
2. Adopt a Highway (October 19): Nancy reported that this will be the 4th cleanup for EIC.
Volunteers should meet at Chick.Fil.A at 8am.
3. Pumpkin Smash (November 2): Allison reported that the permit application and map have been
submitted to the city, and Kay reported that she has contacted the hauler.
VII. Unfinished Business:
1. Arbor Day Whittier School (April 25, 2025): Kay reported that a tree and a location at the school
have been chosen.
2. Native Plant Sale (April 26, 2025): Tony reported that they will meet in November to discuss plant
choices.
w Prairie Path Cleanup (April 26, 2025): no report
4. Annual Report and EIC Budget: Kay moved that we accept the report as presented, and Bob
seconded. The motion was approved by unanimous voice vote.
VIII. New Business:
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
September 24, 2024
1. Funding for EIC Events: none needed
2. Jim Wozniak will investigate ordinances for tree removal in the city.
3. Recycling Extravaganza: Kay has been working on vendors and Iocation. She has not heard back
from the DuPage County Fairgrounds, and Accurate Document says they are only able to
guarantee one truck when three are needed. Kay would like help addressing the logistics of set up
for this event to help it run more smoothly, and Brian, Ted, Nancy, Tony, and Bob volunteered.
They will plan to meet at the Fairgrounds and work on a plan to discuss at the December 3 EIC
meeting.
IX. Adjournment:
Allison moved that the meeting be adjourned. Kay seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 8:35.
The next regular EIC meeting is scheduled for October 22, 2024, at 7:30 P.M.
