ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
WHEATON CITY HALL, 303 W WESLEY STREET, WHEATON, ILLINOIS 60187

I. Call to Order: Chairman Ted Witte called the meeting to order at 7:30.
Present were Cathy Coleman, Nancy Flynn, Brian Malone, Kay McKeen, Tony Pope, David
Popham, Stephen Siemer, Allison Torrence, Seema Wadia, and Bob Young. Absent were Jim Boak
and Jim Wozniak.
II. Approval of Minutes:
Bob moved that the minutes from the December meeting be approved. Nancy seconded. The
minutes were approved by unanimous voice vote.
Ill. Budget Report:
Bob reported that expenditures to date equal $1424, leaving $34,326 open to spend.
IV. Public Comment: NONE
V. Reports:
1. Electronics Recycling (January 11, 2025): Bob reported that it was a very busy Saturday with a
constant flow of traffic until noon. EIC was represented by Brian Malone, David Popham,
Steve Siemer, and Bob. Jim Truesdale, Thuy, and a returning student from WWS's Key Club
were there. eWorks had six men. The smoke alarm bin is full, very little cooking oil, over 200
tubes, average scrap metal and textiles. Two tvs were dumped along with a monitor.
Vl. Upcoming Projects:
1. Electronics Recycling (February 8, 2025): Bob, Tony, David, and Steve will work the event.
VII. Unfinished Business:
1. Recycling Extravaganza (April 12, 2025): Kay reported that she has confirmed most of the
vendors. She will schedule a meeting with Jim at the DuPage County Fairgrounds and Kay,
Ted, and Brian to work out where vendors will be placed.
2. Arbor Day (April 25, 2025): Whittier School
3. Native Plant Sale (April 26, 2025): Tony reported that a meeting was held in November. Prices
were set at $4 for pints, $15 for gallons, and $35 for trees. Annette has 16 volunteers lined
up already. Kay will work on getting high school students closer to the date. Tony has
submitted the permit application. A letter is being sent to volunteers outlining how they can
pre-order plants and noting that they are subject to the limits and cannot purchase their
plants until the end of the sale.

4. Prairie Path Cleanup (April 26, 2025): Seema will send out the Date” in February and
begin registration in March.

IX. Adjournment:
Cathy moved that the meeting be adjourned. Steve seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 8:10.
The next reguiar EIC meeting is scheduled for February 25, 2025, at 7:30 P.M.
