3. NEW BUSINESS
A. It was moved and approved that the agenda be accepted with the addition of David Malone
inclusion in the Abolitionist Event Discussion
B. The minutes of March 24, July 27 and September 8 were approved.
C. There was extensive discussion about what kind of event would be apropos to highlight Wheaton’s
involvement with the Underground Railroad/Abolitionists. Ms. Turner enlightened us about area
programs available, but nothing that was specifically Wheaton based. Mr. Malone has visuals of people
involved with the movement. It was decided that the Commission would meet before scheduled
meeting of November 24 to discuss the possibility of presenting a walking tour for students as well as
adults that would start at Gary Wheaton Church and continue down Seminary to Blanchard Hall having
stops to explain various historic facts about Wheaton’s involvement. i.e. Streets being named after free
states.
