City of Wheaton Fine and Cultural Arts Commission City Hall Minutes June 7, 2016 1. Call to Order President Mike Bock called the meeting to order at 7:08. Those present: Sarah Antas, Tony Asta, Bill Austin and Greg Schreck. Absent: Dee Hicks, Kathy Young 2. Public Comment None 3. New Business: A. Mike moved to approve agenda and motion passed. B. Tony moved and Greg seconded to approve minutes from last week. Motion passed. C. Mike spoke to Mr. Atten, owner of old Wheaton Theater. Mr Atten said he has spoken to artist who did College Ave mural about doing a French street scene on south (alley side) of building but that he doesn't want to make any decision until renovations are complete, for which he still needs a lot of money. Greg suggested inviting Mr Atten to a future meeting. Tony has two calls in to attorney for another building but has not heard back from him yet.Mr Atten told Mike that the City is going to build a permanent structure for the French Market and that might be a great location. No idea as to when this may happen. Mike will ask at his Rotary Club meeting if anyone knows of any business owners with walls that may work. D. Leah's proposal- Bill is concerned about the "abstractness" of the proposed design and feels that if we go with current design it will need to be accompanied by some sort of explanation regarding the orbs, minerals, etc and how they represent the different countries. E, Mike said he will ask the Chamber of Commerce about an email blast asking businesses for possible wall space for mural. Mike will also ask about permission for use of a Gofundme.com page, and passing the hat at Music in the Park. F. Greg suggested we split in to smaller groups to work on design/input, location, fundraising and documentation. G. Bill reminded us that Music in the Park is July 9. 4.Old Business 5. Miscellaneous Motion to adjourn was made by Mike. Bill seconded and motion passed. Meeting was adjourned at 8:00
