City of Wheaton Fine and Cultural Arts Commission Wednesday, November 15, 2017 City Hall Minutes 1. Call to Order President Mike Bock called the meeting to order at 6:04. In attendance: Sara Antas, Tony Asta, Bill Austin, Mike Bock and Dee Hicks. Absent: Laurie Oberhelman and Kathy Young. 2._________Public Comment none 3. New Business Agenda approved. Motion by Tony, second by Sara Consideration be given next year to “Day of the Dead” 4. Old Business Discussion relating to the golf project: Tony presented an outline he prepared that included objectives, activities and sponsorship opportunities. Objective: inform the public of Wheaton’s involvement in golf. Activities: 18 golf balls placed throughout the downtown area. Each ball will be decorated in motif (logistics have to be determined). There will be a score card designed to correspond with locale of balls and history of a golfer (logistics have to be determined). Lightpost banners need to be designed (logistics have to be determined) A display of artifacts owned by the City and Alberta Albertson needs to be decided upon. Dee will contact Alberta and discuss possibilities. Cantigny and Arrowhead golf courses should be encouraged to have special activities during this time period. Dee and Laurie will discuss the organization of a reception. Sponsorship: Golf Balls, Score Cards, Display Banners. As soon as we have approximate costs of these items we will determine the cost of sponsorship. Commissioners are encouraged to talk with possible sponsors and tell them what we are planning and the cost for them to participate. Tony is looking into converting information sheet into a brochure which will be used as a recruitment piece. Mike has talked to the Mayor and has had positive vibes, however, funding needs to be determined. We were advised that Front Street will be torn up during this timeframe. Mike will have quote for golf balls on 11/16 and will forward to us. Laurie will talk to Mike Bernard and inform him on what we are planning and how the Park District could work with us to present this event. Sarah checked with China manufacturer of large golf balls, however, all signs were negative regarding business ethics so we will continue to contact Bush Plastics. 5.
