Fine & Cultural Arts Commission

January 30, 2024, Gamon Room, Wheaton City Hall I. Call to Order President Lewis Achenbach called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. II. Roll Call Those present: Mike Bock, Dee Hicks, Randy King, Lewis Achenbach and Vittoria Clay. Also present: Bari Ericson from the Wheaton Library. Non-present: Sarah Antas. III. Agenda: Mike Bock moved, and Randy King seconded the approval of the agenda. Motion carried. IV. Approval of Minutes: Randy King moved to accept June 26, 2023 minutes with the correction that the date be changed to October 24. Vittoria seconded. Motion carried. V. New Business: Public Art Randy King and Lewis Achenbach met with Michael Dzugan and John Duguay today to discuss public art. The Council is anxious to move forward with this project. We would like a financial commitment from the City to move forward. Randy and Lewis will follow-up with the City. Addiction Art Request. Need more information. Will forward information via e-mail and discuss at next meeting. VI. Old Business 2024 Walking (Biking) Tour. Dave Duve of the Wheaton Bicyclist and Pedestrian Commission would like to co-sponsor a tour which would include the hydrants. Will follow-up next meeting. We would select a designated area to display art. Suggest Library to Didka’s (EW) and Liberty Wesley (NS) June 21 Make Music Day. The city would like to plan this with cooperation of venders. Need more information. Will be held in Adams Park (with permission), Jerry’s Music School and local restaurant as venues (Adelle’s, Hale Street, My Half of the Sky) and local bands will be invited to “show their stuff” at no fee. Randy and Lewis will bring logo and website up to date. Mural restoration. The mural on College Avenue needs some touch up work. VII. Commissioner Comments: None VIII.
