Minutes of the City of Wheaton Historic Commission DRAFT Sept 20, 2016 Meeting Held at City Hall, Gamon Room, Wheaton, Illinois Attendance- Present: Barbara Dutton (Vice Chair), Emelie Engling, Nancy Flannery (Chair), Maureen Fogerty, Tom Kay, Steph McGrath (Secretary), Frank Principe. Meeting called to order at 7:03 pm. There was no public comment. Minutes of the August 16, 2016 meeting approved following a motion by Greg Morrison, seconded by Tom Kay, and passed unanimously. Old Business -25th Anniversary of Historic Commission: Nancy reviewed list of RSVPs and event plans for the Commission’s 25th Anniversary event on September 24th. Front desk check-in “Shifts” were assigned as follows: 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm – Frank; 3:30 pm – 4:00 pm – Maureen; 4:00 pm – 4:30 pm – Emelie; 4:30 pm – 5:00 pm – Steph; 5:00 pm – 5:30 pm – Barbara; 5:30 pm – 6:00 pm - Tom (Maureen). Commissioners were reminded to be on time for their shift as a courtesy to their fellow commissioners. Nancy also requested that commissioners turn up early to help with set-up. Frank and Emelie volunteered. -McKee Preservation Group: Barbara Dutton gave an update on organizations interested in using the McKee site and current efforts to preserve the McKee house. It was discussed re: if the Historic Commission can advocate for its preservation, or if individual members who are interested should do that on their own accord. Barbara will draft a possible letter of support for the Commission to examine at its next meeting. Commissioner Comments -Since this was Greg’s last meeting on the Commission, Nancy thanked Greg for his service on the Commission -Tom discussed possible school use of McKee House for programming -Steph reviewed a question about an anticipated landmark application and mentioned the upcoming program on the Adams Memorial Library’s 125th anniversary -Greg said how he had enjoyed his tenure on the commission, that it had been a very positive experience, and that perhaps when his work obligations change, he will be able to rejoin the Commission -Maureen would like a future discussion about historic properties from the real estate market view -Barb recommended a Wheaton College program on architecture -Emelie reported that the properties surrounding the Jesse Wheaton home have been acquired to further protect the landmark Adjournment Maureen moved, Greg seconded, the motion passed unanimously, and the meeting concluded at 8:45 pm.
