Minutes of the City of Wheaton Historic Commission
February 20, 2018
Held at City Hall, Wheaton, Illinois
Attendance
Present: Nancy Flannery (Chair), Maureen Fogerty, Tom Kay, Steph McGrath (Secretary), Frank Principe,
Bob Purdy
Absent: Emelie Engling, Barbara Dutton (Vice Chair)
The meeting was called to order at 7:07 pm
Public comment none
Approval of Minutes
Minutes of the January 16, 2018 meeting were approved following a motion by Bob, seconded by Tom,
and passed unanimously.
Old Business
Preservation Month 2018
-The Commission reviewed Preservation Month 2018 planned lectures and events
-The Wheaton Public Library has a shorter PR timeline now that they are no longer producing a print
newsletter
-Nancy reported that the bike tour of WW1 sites in conjunction with the Wheaton Bicycle Advisory
Committee/the Environmental Commission will be scheduled in September
-The Commission discussed Wheaton’s upcoming Summer of Golf events. Nancy attended a local
planning meeting at Arrowhead and has contacted the USGA. She is working with the USGA on a
Wheaton Golf History tour which will include Chicago Golf Club Colony homes but will not include access
to the Chicago Golf Club due to its privacy regulations.
-Nancy has purchased new stands for the Pride in Preservation signs. She is still working on updating the
sign distribution map.
-Nancy informed the Commission that the Wheaton Public Library is developing a youtube channel and
will host our videos.
-The Wheaton Public Library has a volunteer board where we could post for help putting up Pride in
Preservation signs.
Miscellaneous
-Nancy reported that she is still having trouble contacting someone at Union Pacific Railroad in order to
obtain permission to install the Wheaton Railroad historic plaque. She will ask the City for assistance.
-Nancy has received a response from the DuPage County Genealogical Society and will pursue it.
-The Commission voted on 321 W Franklin’s application for Wheaton Register of Historic Properties.
Maureen moved it be approved and Bob seconded; the motion passed unanimously. 321 W. Franklin
has been added to the Wheaton Register of Historic Places. Nancy will arrange for the certificate of
designation and acceptance letter to be sent to the owners.
-The Commission tabled discussion of Landmarks IL Endangered List to next meeting
New Business
-Nancy informed the Commission that it has received another application for new commissioner. It was
decided to invite both applicants to the next meeting.

Steph moved to adjourn, Maureen seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. The meeting
concluded at 7:47 pm.
