Minutes of the City of Wheaton Historic Commission
April 17, 2018 Meeting
Held at City Hall, Wheaton, Illinois
Attendance
Present: Nancy Flannery (Chair), Maureen Fogerty, Tom Kay, Steph McGrath (Secretary), Frank Principe,
Bob Purdy
Absent: Barbara Dutton (Vice Chair), Emelie Engling
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm
Approval of Minutes
Approval of the March 20, 2018 meeting minutes was moved by Bob, seconded by Frank, and passed
unanimously.

Old Business
Preservation Month
-Nancy informed the Commission that the Pride in Preservation Signs maps and lists are being revised
and will be available next week. The signs will be on display from May 11 to May 21.
-The Commission reviewed the list of Preservation Month events.
Miscellaneous
-Reviewed list of June and July golf events.
-Dates are now set for Wheaton Golf History trolley tours to be held on July 1 and July 8.
-The Commission’s regular May meeting will be held at Cantigny.
-The Union Pacific Railroad wants information on who will be installing the historic site marker sign.
Nancy will contact the company we used to fix the Masonic Temple site marker.
-Nancy has sent the time capsule information and photographs to Arin Thrower at the City. We are
working with Susan Bishel on creating a time capsule webpage.
-The Historic Commission’s website now has local partners’ links added.
-The City is considering the installation of a plaque in Adams Park in tribute of Yvonne Burt-Simpson.
Commission Members
-Tom requested ex-officio status; Emelie moved to approve, Steph seconded and it passed unanimously.
-Applications for two new members, Andrew Welker and Megan Jorgenson, were reviewed; Steph
moved to approve both applications, Maureen seconded and it passed unanimously.
-Tom’s many years of dedicated service were toasted by all.
Landmarks Illinois
-Barb will prepare a fact sheet about the Christian Scientist church; Nancy, Barb and Maureen plan to
meet with the Lutheran church to get more information.
New Business
-None
Commissioner Comments:
-Tom revealed that his lifelong interest in Wheaton history began with his parents meeting as students
at Wheaton College.
-Barb took an Americana road trip to Natchez, Mississippi
-Emelie attended a meeting of the Culinary Historians of Northern Illinois.
Adjournment
Bob moved to adjourn, Barb seconded, passed unanimously, the meeting concluded at 8:30 pm.
Note: the next meeting of the Historic Commission will be held at 7:00 pm on May 15, 2018 at the
McCormick Mansion, Cantigny Park.
