IV. Old Business
A. Railroad Historic site marker: Nancy informed the Commission that she has contacted Nameplate and
the installer to make arrangements for the railroad site marker to be completed. Captions under the
three photographs will need to be written. Nancy reminded the Commission that the site marker will be
in silver (not gold) since we will be getting the larger size plaque (22.5" x 28.625"). Steph will review and
revise the historic site marker text both content and layout.
B. Patrick Hoare explained his project to create a blog on Wheaton businesses incorporating some
historical information about Wheaton. He has registered the domain at https://www.wheatonia.com/ .
He is looking for ideas and input from the Commission. He might include real estate like older homes.
The Commission advised him on ways to weave in Wheaton heritage and history. Patrick plans to start
uploading episodes on his blog website on March 1st and continue through Small Business Saturday on
November 30, 2019. Nancy will send Patrick’s contact information to members of the Historic
Commission.
C. The new commission applicant review was postponed to a later meeting.
V. New Business
A. Nancy distributed the draft of the Commission's Annual report for review and comment. She explained
that the City's ordinances have not "caught up" with the new Fiscal Year schedule. The Commission has
received a new applicant to join the Historic Commission. Nancy will reach out to her and invite her to
attend our next meeting.
B. The Rufus Grover/Toms-Price house history and future prospects were discussed.
C. Nancy alerted the Commission to the fact that the 2019 Preservation Month speakers need to be booked
in January to secure the use of the Wheaton Public Library facilities and public relations. The
Commission discussed possible topics, themes and speakers for 2019.
D. Real estate in Wheaton was discussed. Ballyshear has sold; the Dart house at 916 W. Elm St. is now on
the market.
