Tuesday, March 19, 2019 Held at City Hall, Wheaton, Illinois I. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 7:06 pm. Present: Nancy Flannery (Chair), Barbara Dutton (Vice Chair), Steph McGrath (Secretary), Emelie Engling, Bob Purdy Absent: Andrew Welker II. Public Comments Laura Cusak attended the meeting. She enjoys researching home histories and is interested in learning more about the Historic Commission. III. Approval of Minutes Minutes of the February 19, 2019 meeting were approved as amended on a motion by Emelie, seconded by Bob and passed unanimously. IV. Old Business A. Steph reported on the downtown Depot bollard design changes in process. B. Barb is waiting to hear back from her contact at the Bicycle Commission regarding another history bike tour. C. Preservation month events were discussed. The Commission is still considering using high school students to assist with distributing the Pride in Preservation signs. Steph reported on the display at the Wheaton Public Library and how it will focus on home history research topics. Nancy went over the publicity plan which included notices on the Commission’s city website and a new source of publicity, i.e. inclusion in the Wheaton community money mailer. Nancy also informed the Commission of possible problems with scheduling the videotaping of the Dart lecture. D. The Commission discussed including some Wheaton Historic Preservation Council materials in the Wheaton Public Library files. The Wheaton Public Library files were reviewed in terms of what private information to redact, and other topics and formats to add. E. Bob brought up the need to update the Commission’s community partner links with the DuPage County Historical Museum. F. The Commission reviewed the landmark application for 617 N. West Street. It was noted that the source of some of the information was not clear. Members of the Commission also wanted to verify that the geographic context of taxes had been considered. V. New Business A. The Commission discussed rules for electronic attendance at meetings. Bob moved to accept the rules, Emelie seconded and the motion passed unanimously. B. Bob has been looking into the CA&E railroad history and is interested in developing an interpretive sign. HISTORIC COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES Month Date, Year C. Steph reported that the Downtown Design Review Board met to consider paint schemes for 121 N. Cross Street. Bob moved that the Historic Commission would like to see two designs as was voted upon by the Downtown Design Review Board; Barb seconded and it passed unanimously. VI. Commissioner Comments - Bob noted that during the candidate forum preservation issues had been addressed. -Emelie announced an upcoming meeting of the Culinary Historians of Northern Illinois. -Nancy said an open house honoring Mayor Gresk is scheduled April 15th 4 to 7 p.m. at City Hall. -Steph shared Laura’s discovery of the historic DuPage County tax records online. The Commission will need to update the landmark application and guide to sources. VII. Adjournment Barbara moved to adjourn, Emelie seconded, and it passed unanimously, the meeting concluded at 9:09 pm. 2
