Bob Purdy
Absent: Linda Moran, Emelie Engling, Andrew Welker
Remote: Emelie, minutes only
Public Comments: Wheaton North government students: Beatrice Coyle, Morgan Fleming,

II. Approval of Minutes
Minutes of the October 15, 2019 meeting were approved as amended on a motion by
Bob, seconded by Emelie and passed unanimously.
III. Old Business
A. Remote attendance procedures are under review by the Wheaton City Clerk and need to
be updated. Nancy will research the options.
B. Steph reported that the Depot marker photos have been adjusted satisfactorily and have
been sent to Nameplate.
C. Bob updated the Commission on the CA&E site marker. After discussion, it was agreed
that it would be ideal if both selected photographs of the CA&E station could be used in
the CA&E site marker. Bob will contact Nameplate to see if two photographs could fit
with some text edits.
D. Nancy reported that the City’s contract with the consultant, Camairos, re: the Roosevelt
Road Corridor Plan has been extended. Barbara spoke with Dr. Bryan Bauer who
indicated that they are willing to do a This Place Matters photo at Warren L. Wheaton
house since the Camiros plan recommends the Warren L. Wheaton house being
demolished and an office building put in its place.
E. Preservation Month events were discussed. The Home History Research dates are set for
Saturday, May 2, 2020 from 1-4 pm and Monday, May 4, 2020 from 6-8 pm at the
Wheaton Public Library. The Pride in Preservation signs will be up from May 9 to May
17, 2020. Nancy confirmed that Janet Kerschner, Archivist will be giving a talk about the
Theosophical Society and Wheaton on Thursday, May 7, 2020. The Commission also
discussed possible additional lectures.
F. Pride in Preservation signs—it was agreed that the full commission needs to be present to
decide what to add, and what the desired result is for the changes, e.g. clarify organization
and/or the register, who to contact, etc.
G. The number of seats on the Historic Commission was discussed. Nancy has checked with
the City and the Commission may consider reducing its membership size to 7 members due
to quorum issues. Other commissions and boards range from 6 to 14 membership seats.
Steph suggested that the Commission may want to set a certain number of meetings each
Commissioner is expected to attend per year to help potential members judge their
availability.
H. The issue of social media accounts for the Commission was discussed. It was suggested
that it might be possible for the City to set up the Commission’s accounts with the
Commission as administrator vs the way it is now set up through individual members.
IV. New Business
A. Nancy reported that the updated Time Capsule page has been posted and the DuPage
County Historical Museum informed.
B. Bike tour topics were discussed and the list revised.
C. Nancy reminded the Commission about the deadline for the Landmarks Illinois “Most
Endangered Property” list. The Commission discussed local properties to suggest for this
list.
