Tuesday, November 19 , 2024 Gamon Room, City Hall I. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 7:01 pm Present In-person – Louise Ferrebee (Chair), Bob Purdy (Secretary), Mike Hill (Treasurer), Debra Corwin, Nancy Flannery, Elizabeth Krecisz Absent – Syed Hussain, Jackson Metcalf Public -- Chian Tim II. Public Comments Chian Tim is a Wheaton College student majoring in city planning and urban development. She has a strong interest in history and attended to observe the work of the commission. III. Approval of October Meeting Minutes Approved on a motion by Deb, seconded by LIz, and passed unanimously. IV. Treasurer Report $3,628.67 remaining in 2024 budget. V. Old Business A. Publicity  Order 1,500 additional general brochures. This will be done and paid from the current 2024 budget.  Table at Library. Date to be determined, pending tie-in with an appropriate Library event in 2025.  Name Tags. Deb presented options and costs she researched for name tags for us to wear at events. Commissioners preferred the white color and the magnetic attachment. B. Permanent Historic Markers  Discussion. Louise reviewed the photos of the new markers as well as replacement photos of older markers. These will be for our files and the new brochure.  Memorial Park markers. Two of the three markers that were removed are being reinstalled. The third one, depicting the site of the Elbert H. Gary home, is of an older design and will remain in storage at the Mary Lubko Center.  Updated brochure. Will cover 14 markers. Various formats and sizes were discussed. A legal size (8 1/2” x 14”) brochure that includes a map was preferred. C. Downtown Design Review Board – new appointee. Tabled until next meeting. D. 2024 Annual Report and 2025 Budget. This was approved at the October 28 city council meeting. Copies were distributed to commissioners. E. Commission Handbook review. A motion to approve the updated version of the How-To Guide was made by Bob, seconded by Nancy and passed unanimously. VI. New Business A. Preservation Month Lecture Topic/Presenter. A May 7 lecture about the Trinity Episcopal Church history and 150th anniversary celebration has been scheduled as in in- person event at the Library, videorecorded and edited by the City. Bob is working with the presenter Beth Petti; title and description will be ready for the library event calendar in January. B. Event for Historic Register property owners and potential applicants. Deb presented details and timeline this event to be possibly held at DuPage Museum. The purpose will be to engage attendees to share information, experiences, and methods. Timing and dates were discussed and a late April weeknight was preferred. Next step: Deb to meet with Museum to discuss space rental. C. No December meeting. Cancellation has been submitted and approved by City Clerk. D. Election of 2025 Officers. Nominations and elections will take place at January meeting. VII. Commissioner Comments Nancy attended the November 6 Geoffrey Baer event at DuPage County Historical Museum. She gave her impressions of the program and the catering for this Museum Foundation fund-raiser. VIII. Adjournment A motion to adjourn was made by Bob, seconded by Nancy, and passed unanimously.
