I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm
Present In-person – Louise Ferrebee (Chair), Bob Purdy (Secretary), Mike Hill (Treasurer), Debra
Corwin, Nancy Flannery, Elizabeth Krecisz, Syed Hussain
Absent – Jackson Metcalf
II. Public Comments
None
III. Approval of October Meeting Minutes
Approved on a motion by Syed, seconded by LIz, and passed unanimously.
IV. Treasurer Report
None
V. Old Business
A. Downtown Design Review Board – new appointee. Mike Hill has volunteered for the
appointment.
B. Name Tags. Louise distributed the new name tags provided by the City.
VI. New Business
A. Election of 2025 Officers. A motion to approve the following slate officers was made by
Nancy, seconded by Bob, and passed unanimously.
Chair – Louise Ferrebee
Vice-Chair – Syed Hussain
Recording Secretary – Bob Purdy
Treasurer – Mike Hill
B. Preservation Month (May)
May 7 Lecture. Beth Petti will present “Trinity Episcopal Chapel: 150 Years” at
Wheaton Public Library meeting room, 7 pm. This will be in in-person event
requiring registration on the library website. It will be videorecorded and edited
by city staff.
Historic Register Property signs. These will be placed by Commissioners on May
3rd and removed May 18th.
Historic Commission banners. Louise will supervise the placement of these in the
designated places.
C. Event for Historic Register home/business owners. Deb presented the updated details
and timeline for this event to be held at DuPage County Historical Museum.
Event date: Thursday April 24 is reserved.
Event hours: 6pm to 8pm
Cost: $112/hour rental (non-profit discounted rate) payable in advance.
Beverages and food (snacks/ hors d'oeuvres) to be determined.
Goals & Purposes of Event: These were discussed:
Allow property owners to meet current Historic Commission members
Property owners to meet peer owners
Explain the work and mission of the Historic Commission, what we do
and what we don’t do.
Explain the evolution of the Wheaton Historic Register program, from
beginning as a “Landmark” program by the WHPC to the current
“Historic Register” form.
Gather information about properties that is unavailable or was lost by
Wheaton Historic Preservation Council, including current owner names,
architect, builder, who lived in the house, architectural style.
Mike agreed to inform us at the February meeting about the various
entities involved in historic preservation:
--National Register of Historic Places
--National Historic Landmark program
--Illinois State Historic Preservation Office
--Landmarks Illinois
--Historic Districts
VII. Updates
A. Walking Tour of Main Street – What is possible with GIS Map?
Tabled to February meeting
B. Ordered and in Annex storage: 1,000 additional general brochures
VIII. Commissioner Comments
Louise reminded commissioners about the February 23 Appreciation Brunch.
IX. Adjournment
A motion to adjourn was made by Syed, seconded by Liz, and passed unanimously. The meeting
concluded at 8:36 pm
