Wheaton Public Library Board Meeting Minutes of July 17, 2017 I. Call to Order and Roll Call: The Board of Trustees of the Wheaton Public Library held its regular monthly meeting on Monday, July 17, 2017, in the Library Board Room. Board President Fenne brought the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. Members present at roll call were: Mrs. Fenne, Mr. Kipfer, Mr. McHaley, Ms. Porter, Mr. Sanguinetti and Mrs. Stec. Absent: Mr. Cho, Mrs. Lindsey and Mrs. Metanchuk. Betsy Adamowski, Library Director, and Lisa Christell-Sandri, Library Finance Manager and recording secretary for this meeting, were in attendance. II. Citizens to Be Heard: None III. Introduction of Newly Appointed Board Member Ryan Kipfer and Swearing In: President Fenne had Mr. Kipfer state the Oath of Office. The members congratulated and welcomed him to the Board. CONSENT AGENDA IV. Minutes for the June 19, 2017 Board Meeting V. Financial Report for June 2017 and Bill Listing for July 2017 Payment: Mr. McHaley moved and Mrs. Stec seconded to approve the Consent Agenda items. Friends of the Library Report – Mrs. Adamowski: Mrs. Adamowski stated that the volunteers for the Friends are working hard to get ready for their book sale. Mrs. Fenne noted that the Concerts on the Park series that the Friends’ sponsor has started. VII. Library Director’s Report for June 2017: Mrs. Adamowski showed the Board the plaque that the Library won for “Best Use of Theme” in the Fourth of July Parade. She also held up a large check for $2,500 from the Lion’s Club of Wheaton. She was very grateful to the Lions for their donation. Mrs. Adamowski noted that Lisa Barefield has been hired as Teen Supervisor for the Teen (Young Adult) area and that she is already getting involved in doing presentations at conferences, which helps to showcase WPL. Mrs. Adamowski was pleased that the PRC (People’s Resource Center) reception held at the Library for Jeni Fabian, their new Executive Director, had about 50 attendees. Mrs. Adamowski passed around the Daily Herald Wheaton Resident’s Guide magazine that Mr. McHaley brought in. In it was an article by Janet Dumas, Head of Youth Services, and Courtney Tedrick, Head of Community Engagement. It highlighted the many events that the Library is having over the summer. Mrs. Adamowski shared with the Board that the furniture inventory and replacement cost analysis project will be done by library architect, Studio GC. Work will begin this summer. The cost of the project will be $10,000. VIII. Unfinished Business: None IX. New Business: A. Motion to Approve New Library Logo and Tagline as Presented by Director Adamowski: Ms. Porter moved and Mr. McHaley seconded that Option 1 of the New Library Logo and Tagline be approved. Motion to Move the Restricted-Chase Bank Adams Memorial Classic Checking Account (9037) to the DuPage Foundation – Adams Endowment Fund: Mrs. Fenne announced that the State’s Attorney General has approved the dissolution of the JP Morgan Trust and the transfer of it to DuPage Foundation. Ms. Porter moved and Mrs. Stec seconded to approve the above motion. Motion to Move the Restricted-JP Morgan Adams Memorial Trust Money Market (1180) to the DuPage Foundation – Adams Endowment Fund: Ms. Porter asked if any of these funds are used for transactions of any kind; Mrs. Adamowski responded that they are not, but Wheaton Public Library Board Meeting Minutes of July 17, 2017 she would like to set a plan for the future of these accounts. Mr. Cho moved and Ms. Porter seconded the above motion. Motion to Move the Restricted-Chase Bank Garbe Family Book Fund Checking Account (5310) to the DuPage Foundation – Garbe Endowment Fund: Mr. Sanguinetti moved and Mr. McHaley seconded to approve the above motion. Discussion – Wheaton Public Library By-Laws Revision: Mrs. Fenne stated that the library’s by-laws need to be reviewed. She would like to add the nominating committee to be a standing committee. She, along with Vice-President Porter and Director Adamowski will meet to discuss and will present their suggestions at the August Board Meeting, and then a vote will occur in September. G. Election of Officers: Mrs. Stec presented the slate of officers for FY2017-2018: President Mrs. Fenne Vice-President Ms. Porter Secretary Mr. Cho Treasurer Mr. Sanguinetti Mrs. Stec moved and Mr. McHaley seconded to approve the slate as presented. Adjournment: There being no further business of the Wheaton Public Library Board of Trustees, Ms. Porter moved and Mr. Cho seconded that the meeting be adjourned.
