I. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL VOTE
Chair Pearse called the February 16, 2023 meeting of the Local Liquor Control Commission to order at
7:00 P.M. in the City Council Chambers of the Wheaton City Hall, 303 West Wesley Street and via Zoom.
Upon roll call, the following were present: Commissioner Brown, Chair Pearse, Commissioner Sender
and Commissioner Taylor. Absent: Commissioner Whitmer. City Staff Present: James P. Kozik, Director of
Planning and Economic Development.
II. PUBLIC COMMENT
There was no public comment.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES – January 12, 2022
Hearing no questions or comments, the minutes of the January 12, 2022 Local Liquor Control
Commission meeting were approved as submitted.
IV. NEW BUSINESS
Application for a Class A Liquor License – Maypole Restaurant Wheaton LLC DBA Maypole – 121 W.
Front Street
Mr. Mike Melazzo, owner and Ms. Bridget Vanaman, chef, were in attendance to present an application
for a Class A Liquor License for Maypole, their new restaurant to be located at 121 W. Front Street.
Mr. Melazza stated that their proposed 100 seat restaurant is to be located in the former Emmett’s
Brewing Company space at 121 W. Front Street. Mr. Melazzo stated that he is also involved with the
ownership group for Subourbon LLC, who will be opening a +/- 75 seat private craft cocktail lounge in
the existing lower-level space at the same address.
While to be redecorated, Mr. Melazzo stated that the general floorplan of the proposed restaurant will
be largely unchanged from that of Emmett’s.
Mr. Melazzo then provided the Commission with information about his background in the responsible
sales of alcohol and how liquor training will be addressed at the proposed restaurant.
Hearing no further questions or comments, Commissioner Brown then moved and Commissioner Sender
seconded a motion to recommend approval of a Class A Liquor License to Maypole Restaurant Wheaton
LLC DBA Maypole, 121 W. Front Street. On a voice vote, all voted aye.
